Care for a Tense Jaw

Jaw clenching and grinding can leave you with sore muscles, headaches, tooth wear, or morning discomfort. Dr. Brian Shipton offers therapeutic Botox as one possible part of a personalized plan for these symptoms and certain TMD/TMJ-related concerns.

When Jaw Muscles Need Attention

Dr. Shipton looks at your symptoms, bite, and dental health before recommending treatment.

  • Clenching & Grinding

Botox can temporarily reduce activity in targeted jaw muscles and may lessen the force of clenching or grinding for some patients.

  • TMD/TMJ Symptoms

For some patients with jaw muscle tension, treatment may help relieve related soreness or headaches.

  • Tooth Protection

Botox does not replace every other approach. A bite guard or restorative care may still be part of your plan if your teeth have been affected.

A Plan Built Around Your Symptoms

  1. Talk It Through

Dr. Shipton reviews your symptoms, health history, medications, and treatment goals.

  2. Evaluate

He examines your teeth, bite, and jaw and discusses whether Botox or another approach is appropriate.

  3. Treat & Follow Up

If you proceed, small amounts are placed in specific jaw muscles. Follow-up helps assess your response and any future needs.

Questions, Answered

Therapeutic Botox is a treatment option, not a one-size-fits-all answer. Dr. Shipton can explain how it may fit your care plan.

Talk With Our Team
Does Botox cure bruxism?

No. It may reduce excessive jaw muscle activity, but it does not remove the underlying cause of clenching or grinding.

Will I still need a bite guard?

Possibly. A bite guard may still be recommended to protect your teeth, depending on your symptoms and dental health.

When might I notice a change?

Effects develop gradually. Some patients notice a change within several days, but individual responses vary.
